Our History

Teaching for Knowledge

Teaching for Application

Teaching for Replication

On my 1st trip to Sierra Leone in November 2007 I asked God, "Why am I here?" I was a cold weather guy, having lived in Alaska for 30 years, Utah for 6, Rhode Island for 19. You get the picture. Now I was in a hot and humid place. Why? It really goes to show that God does have a sense of humor. Well he showed me why I was there: 4 young men standing with their Bibles. God told me "they are the reason you are here." I was to help them and others like them become pastors and teachers for all of Sierra Leone. God introduced me to Pastor Ben Margai who has been my son, my friend, and my companion, for the last 18 years. Together we have done what God asked. From the training seminars to the sending of many pastors and chaplains to college, we have fulfilled God's mandate of education and training. We continue to do so today.

We now turn to you for help. People are ready for training and education.  Will you join us?

First Scholarship was February 2008 for Pastor Ben Margai. It was  paid to The Evangelical College of Theology so that he could finish his Diploma program.

  • Over $18,000 has been generated and spent on scholarships so far.
  • Many have received their vocational training and are working to sustain their families and themselves.
  • Many have received Bachelor Degrees, some of them pastors who are preaching the true Gospel.
  • Many have received their Master's Degree.
  • We have open books. We account for every dollar given and spent.
  • Students do not receive the funds - the institutions receive the funds directly and each student name is submitted and tracked.
  • Students agree to attend all their classes, do all of their assignments, and maintain a minimum of a B average. Failure to maintain those standards will result in the termination of their scholarship.
  • The Board of Directors of Children's Legacy Ministries and of  The Light of the World Ministry-Sierra Leone work together to administer the scholarships.
  • Institutions are paid on a monthly/quarterly basis. If a student needs to withdraw due to health, the institution is made aware and the funds for that student are then prorated and the balance returned to Children's Legacy Ministries. Said student may reapply for a scholarship with medical release. If a student loses his/her scholarship for failing to maintain the agreed upon standards, the institution is made aware and the scholarship is prorated and the balance is returned to Children's Legacy Ministries. Said student may not reapply for future scholarships with Children's Legacy Ministries.
